"The mini-implant,
which widens the spectrum of orthodontics"

The limits of orthodontic treatment are often set by the lack of suitable anchorage. The mini-implant is used where conventional anchorage cannot be applied and is not indicated as a replacement for conventional anchorage.
In patients with lack of teeth and reduced periodontium, skeletal anchorage allows for the optimal positioning of the teeth for subsequent rehabilitation. Patients with need for inconsistent tooth movements, for example displacement of all teeth in the same direction or asymmetric displacements, can be treated with the mini-implant. Borderline surgical cases can benefit from the used of the mini-implant. Regeneration of alveolar process by tooth movement in edentulous molar regions using mini-implants as anchorage will improve the reconstruction possibilities. The mini-implant serves thus as anchorage for a multiplicity of tooth movements, it can be inserted by the orthodontist, requires no drilling and can be loaded immediately.

The mini-implant has been developed by Professor Birte Melsen, in coorporation with Medicon
